your special memories deserve some space
Some moments only come once in a lifetime... Your memories may fade, but a custom artwork will endure forever - or at least for many decades.
Let me take your original snapshots and turn them into an heirloom-quality piece of art, worthy of wall space in your home or workspace.
HOW IT WORKS
Current pricing for commissioned custom art starts at $300 for the design work, to include a single subject. The final price will depend on complexity, the size of the piece, and your choice of medium. You can get an idea of media costs by looking in my open print store. Please realize that custom work takes time. Depending on my workload, and the complexity and the amount of research needed, a commission may take up to 6 weeks before delivery.

Step One
You contact me with your ideas, and email me your photos (please be sure that you took them, or have the copyright to use them).

size matters
choosing a size for your final piece
When it comes to deciding on the size for your final piece, there are several guidelines available.
- On a blank wall the artwork should cover 60-75% of the width. Use the same ratio above a piece of furniture. This can be a single large painting or a gallery wall of smaller pieces spaced 2-4" apart.
- The perfect distance from which to view a painting is three times its diagonal. If the room is narrow, or on a stairway, you may be better using multiple smaller pieces to make a gallery wall.
- A painting should be hung with the center 58" from the floor. This is the standard height at which galleries hang art It corresponds to the eye level of the average person.
- If hanging a picture above a piece of furniture, try to keep a 6-12" gap below the art.
- Above a fireplace, try to match the width of the fireplace opening.
Below is a chart giving common furniture pieces and the recommended width of art to be hung above them.
Width of art | |
Twin Bed | 22" - 30" |
Queen Bed | 34" - 45" |
King Bed | 43" - 57" |
72" Couch | 41" - 54" |
96" Couch | 54" - 72" |
60" Dining Table | 34" - 45" |
The most common mistake people make is to choose a size that is too small, giving the effect of an island surrounded by a sea of empty space. On the other hand, if you go for broke and use one large piece alongside a narrow passageway you will lose the ability to see the whole picture at once.
Don't worry. We can discuss this topic in more depth when we have our meeting!
