This sketch and watercolor style works extremely well for cityscapes! Here we have Flinders Street railway station in Melbourne, Victoria, with the iconic Eureka Tower in the background. I based this piece on a photo that I took when we traveled Space A to Australia for a housesitting gig.
This work shows the entry into Melbourne's iconic Flinders Street Station. Opened in 1854, it is Australia's second busiest train station and also serves the 15 tram lines that cover Melbourne's business district. Behind the dome of the railway station you can see the top of the Eureka Tower, which was the world's tallest residential building when it opened in 2006. This building was designed to memorialize the Eureka stockade, a gold rush rebellion of 1854. The blue glass cladding and the white horizontal stripes reflect the colors of the flag of the stockade and the markings on a surveyor's stick, while the gold and the red stripe at the top of the tower reflect the gold rush and the spillage of blood.
